NOT The land of the risen Son!!
NOT Long Earth spoilers!

So I got into bed with my Long Earth US proof and asked my wife to make a guess at the first word. I guessed "the" and she guessed "in". The first word is "in!" :eek: :eek: :eek:

As for the Long Earth UK proof on ebay, it went for just over 400 quid. I bid 311 quid, safe in the knowledege that it'd go for more. Well would you Adam-and-Eve it, I got a "second chance" offer from Rob to buy a different copy for 311 quid. :eek:
However, possibly foolishly, I turned it down. :eek: :dance: :dance:

PRODUCT PLACEMENT PART ONE

In this 1999 interview with Anne Gay, Sir Pterry said the following;

http://www.herebedragons.co.uk/gay/pterry.htm

"It (Discworld) is all commercial - at least, I hope for the sake of the people doing it that it is - but it's not commercialised. Discworld is still, basically, the books. And I have a lot of control and involvement. I got one serious approach from someone wanting to organise product placement in the books, of what, we shall never know."

To be continued....

PRODUCT PLACEMENT PART TWO

This is a page from the Headway Beginner English textbook which I use. It's published by Oxford University Press. This unit is about "I like" and "I don't like."
As you can see, one of the likes or dislikes is Coca-Cola. It is written in the text and there's a picture of a Coke can.
There are other references to Coca-Cola throughout the book.

I wonder how much Coca-Cola paid to have this in the book? :cool:

Notice that the beer, coffee, football teams and the wine are generic. :dance:

To be continued....

Well, he certainly has no problem "product placing" his own 'commercial' DW spinoffs, whether it's the Thud! board game and "Where's My Cow?" in Thud! or his new book about poo in Snuff!

Eh, coke practically IS the generic brand. when most people think of, or mention soft drinks they usually don't say soda, or pop, or the like, they say coke (even if they are talking about pepsi, or RC, or whichever). Its the same with band-aids, everything is a band-aid, even though thats the brands name, not the product.

I think they use that in a lot of classes at my school aswell... not us, though...we had lots of different books (and teachers :rolleyes: ) during the years, but we never really used them (the books, not the teachers :p ) There was one called Inside out, and another one with final exam exercices and a blue one (still the books...)
