Hey, I'll have you know that I really like Green Day (although I thought their last album was a huge letdown after American Idiot; much too soft and commercial).

And I do love the Arctic Monkeys (again, their latest album sucks) and Arcade Fire (their latest album, The Suburbs, is a masterpiece.

And I still have faith that Radiohead will push Thom Yorke out of his boop and blip electronic obsession and make an album that lives up to the promise of OK Computer and Kid A.

But just about everything else these days? Bah humbug.

NOT The land of the risen Son!!
East Jesus Nowhere - one of the greatest songs ever written.

Raise your hands now to testify
Your confession will be crucified
You're a sacrificial suicide
Like a dog that's been sodomized

(Stand up!)
All the white boys
(Sit down!)
And the black girls
(Stand up!)
You're the soldiers
(Sit down!)
Of the new world

Put your faith in a miracle
And it's non-denominational
Join the choir, we'll be singing
In the Church of Wishful Thinking

A fire burns today
Of blasphemy and genocide
The sirens of decay
Will infiltrate the faith fanatics

Oh bless me Lord for I have sinned
It's been a lifetime since I last confessed
I threw my crutches in "the river of a shadow of doubt"
And I'll be dressed up in my Sunday best

Say a prayer for the family
Drop a coin for humanity
Ain't this uniform so flattering?
I never asked you a god damned thing!

A fire burns today
Of blasphemy and genocide
The sirens of decay
Will infiltrate the faith fanatics

Don't test me
Second guess me
Protest me
You will disappear

I want to know who's allowed to breed
All the dogs who never learned to read
Missionary politicians
And the cops of the new religion!

A fire burns today
Of blasphemy and genocide
The sirens of decay
Will infiltrate the inside
Yeah!

I thought Green Day's last album was ther best ever.
The Arctic Monkeys first album was amazing, the second OK, the third absolutely dire.
Don't know Arcade Fire - I'll go check them out.
Radiohead peaked at OK Computer IMO.

The Arctic Monkeys first album was amazing, the second OK, the third absolutely dire. (AGREE totally.)
Don't know Arcade Fire - I'll go check them out. (Try Funeral first, The Suburbs second, and Neon Bible last if you like the first two.)
Radiohead peaked at OK Computer IMO.(TOTALLY agree. I still think OK Computer is the best album of the past 25 years.)

NOT The land of the risen Son!!
Here's the challenge.

Do you think that within one year I can get my greasy paws on uncorrected proofs of books written by world famous writers (excluding TP) with a combined total book age of 1,000 years?

All writers have to be household names, one book per author.

Obviously, I can't buy the major works of some authors because they are way out of my price range. However, I could possibly get cheap, tatty copies of lesser known works. Each book would have to be about 50 quid-ish max.
My Animal Farm proof is 66 years old, but that was an exception and I can't pay that much again.

What are my chances?
