So, you might know the Mel Brooks movie or the Broadway musical based on the Mel Brooks movie or the movie based on the Broadway musical based on the Mel Brooks movie, called 'The Producers'. If you don't, give them a try. I love them.

Spoilers about the plot:

A down on his luck producer and his accountant plot a get rich quick scheme. If they raise money to invest in a play that is a guaranteed flop, they will be raking the money in. The two proceed to find the worst play ever written, obtain a large number of investors, hire a lead actor and director with absolutely no talent, and then sit back to wait for the bad reviews. But, inevitably, the play becomes a huge hit.

Here in Holland, they're putting on a Dutch version - which has been cancelled within a week  I don't often go to the theatre but was very much looking forward to this. On the one hand, sad that we can't go, on the other, I do appreciate the irony of this happening.

I saw The Producers in London. Nearly wet myself! And the audience was full of either gay people or little old ladies of the jewish persuation.

Really Really funny! oh, and it's no play to see if you have hang up about gay men, nazis and other genre!

This is one superb stage production. Mel Brooks stints on nothing! Especially the pigeons! (ROFPML at the memory)

Strange behaviour though to put it on and then cancel. Perhaps on of the Politically Correct (boo!) brigade 'complained!'

Nope, it's a money issue. Reviews are raving, but no-one's buying tickets :-( The few shows that were performed had half-full audiences with an estimated 1/7th paying full price, the rest waiting for last minute deals. The Dutch musical world is crying out in shame that this can happen to such a good show.
