Not sure if any of you lot got involved in the end but the following press release shows the shortlisted Books. Might be worth checking the books out and congrats to the six who made it this far.

The Terry Pratchett Anywhere But
Here, Anywhen But Now
First Novel Prize
SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED!
Sir Terry Pratchett and Transworld Publishers launched a new award for aspiring
debut novelists in June last year: the Terry Pratchett Anywhere But Here,
Anywhen But Now Prize. Since the deadline for submissions on 31 December
2010, the team have spent many hours reading, reporting and discussing the
over 500 entries that were submitted for the £20,000 prize as an advance on a
publishing contract.
Here is the final shortlist in alphabetical order:
1. Postponing Armageddon by Adele Abbott
2. The Platinum Ticket by Dave Beynon
3. Half Sick of Shadows by David Logan
4. Apocalypse Cow by Michael Logan
5. Lun by Andrew Salomon
6. The Coven at Callington by Shereen Vedam
The six shortlisted books cover a breadth of topics and sub genres, imagination
and alternate worlds. Each shortlisted entry was chosen for their skilful writing,
vast imaginative powers and ability to tell a good story!
The winner will be judged by Sir Terry Pratchett, Tony Robinson, Michael
Rowley from Waterstone’s, Marianne Velmans, Publishing Director of
Doubleday and Simon Taylor, Editorial Director at Transworld Publishers. The
winner will be announced by Sir Terry Pratchett at a party to be held on 31 May
2011.
Sir Terry Pratchett and Transworld Publishers would like to thank everyone who
submitted an entry to the prize.
For more information please contact: Lynsey Dalladay, Press Officer at
Transworld Publishers on 0208 231 6793 or l.dalladay@transworldpublishers.

I'm pretty sure we had a thread about it when the contest was announced. I tried to find it recently to post that announcement, but couldn't find it. And then I forgot.

Like flies to shi.....
I could be insulted, except that you would insult the site by calling it excremental. :p

Ironic, isn't it? I've only just figured out a decent plot today, I might have been able to enter it, depending on my eventual word count, only it's about three months too late.

Well theres other ways to get published so truck ahead.
I intend to. I already have completed one novel to my complete satisfaction before the Terry Pratchett Prize was announced, and I intend to finish this book, come hell or high water (the latter of which Meerkat will probably say is a local euphemism for LSD or some liquid hallucinogen...).

Fair enough
I like the enthusiasm and the LSD reference

Keep us informed on any developments anyway.
Only ever achieved publishment in academic journals and magazines but still a nice feeling

Enthusiasm nothing. This book has been giving me grief over the past year. My frustration over not getting it finished was probably part of the reason why events and my emotions led to my temporary self-imposed exile from this BBS.

I WILL finish it. It's not enthusiasm as much as partly an addiction to creative writing (to the point of getting withdrawal symptoms when I have writer's block) and partly sheer bloody-mindedness.

Must finish it. Must finish it. Must finish it.....

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy....

HEEEEERE'S JOHNNY!

If you think that's ironic, you should go write songs for Alanis Morissette :)

It's minor league irony, admittedly.

And I'm no good at writing songs. At least for Alanis Morissette. Maybe I could write songs for Weird Al Yankovic... o_O

Wow! That's the first person Q's mentioned this week that I've actually heard of.
Well, I can write parodies of songs. I have no musical talent whatsoever, but I have a way with words and parody.

And I can't help it if you've lived a sheltered life, or at least if I'm more of an anglophile than you. :p
