Here's what they did to announce the first shortlist back in 2011...

So a day later than advertised and they thanked everyone who submitted right at the end of the article. :( The bank holiday theory certainly works and maybe Dug's if Terry's just come back from a trip and they want to run the announcement with a comment from him perhaps... Along with the lack of even an auto-safe receipt, no reply email when we submitted I suppose this is their way of putting us through the mill of waiting for a response that people submitting in the traditional manner go through with not even a putative deadline to know when or even if they're going to get some reaction from an agent/publisher :angry-banghead:

The phone woke me up this morning and I actually checked the number to see if it was from London (or some commutable place thereto) as it wasn't one I recognised - somewhere in Wales  Oh well - I guess we just have to swallow it until they deign to put something up on site unless they get in touch beforehand with good news, which is the inference for the shortlisted people in the terms and conditions... :snooty:

I google all my unknown numbers, that way I know if it's PPI, some other crap, or someone useful.

It was PPI probably - as it wasn't number witheld

Q -
You know I said my meds were taking the edge off on this? Well they aren't now and I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight  I was hoping to at least know I was out of the running by now so I could go onto my next phase of getting published and start looking around to see if I could find a literary agent interested in my novel.

Unless I'm on the shortlist now, when I finally get published it will never be with Transworld or their group - the very least they could do is explain why they've no announcement to make yet so that we know why things arent happening. As it is people like Q and I are stressing over whether we've not made it onto the shortlist at all or simply if they're having difficulty in deciding who goes on it. We didn't even get an auto-confirmation that our manuscript attachments were received OK so this is doubly frustrating because we can't even say for sure that our novels actually made it to Transworld for judging in the first place! :angry-banghead:

Yes, I suspect the entries for this are going to get bigger every year.

Let's hope they don't take too long announcing.

Positive vibes to all who entered.

Congratulations to the six short-listed entrants in the Terry Pratchett Anywhere But Here, Anywhen But Now First Novel Award. In surname order the lucky six are:

The Unspoken Death of the Amazing Flying Boy by Jean Burdett
Bloodline by Sophie Constable
The Hive by Alexander Maskill
The Way Through the Woods by Robin Pearson
A Kill in the Morning by Graeme Shimmin
The Shadows of Annwn by Catherine Whittle

These six books will be discussed by the judging panel which includes Sir Terry and a winner will be announced on the 31st May. Thank you to everyone who took part and sent in your novels, the standard was remarkably high and we had over 500 entries.

Lynsey
I'm sorry Jan... :( But that doesn't matter it still is a very good novel and as you said yourself, it's going to be published either way, so, I'm looking forward to that!
Q, I don't know your real name, so I don't know if you're in there or not, so... o_O:

Just got in - what a relief to know one way or another!

Mine was always borderline on meeting the criteria as there's little fantasy or parallel universe elements to the core storyline so I'm not too demoralised about not making the shortlist. At least now I can go about more mainstream routes and if that doesn't pan out (there's only so far I'm prepared to go down the rejection trail) then I'll self publish on somewhere that offers an ISBN package so it can go on Amazon. I've already started to typeset (as a kind of failsafe so I'd be able to ditch it if I had made the shortlist :p ) so going to a proofing stage is next and I can do that while I'm dragging it round the agencies so I hope to be on Amazon by the year end whatever happens now ;)

Thanks for all the support everyone - will let you know what happens next as it happens
