Watching Going Postal over Christmas, I think that the Smoking Gnu is much funnier seeing it written than it is voiced.

OK, back on topic......................

I think Twoflower is a daft name for a man. I think TP named him very tongue in cheek. :p
I do like the name Rincewind though.

It's the Chair in Indefinite Studies, the Senior Wrangler and the Lecturer in Recent Runes that I totally can't peg down as characters. o_O
Having worked in a university I can honestly say that it is very normal to have academics wandering around who seem to have no particular job to do...and generally seem to be undefined attachments.

Ever listened to Steven Briggs read them? He's fantastic. Although I muddle up the above characters as well when actually reading, Mr Briggs really gives them their own identity (sometimes a teensy bit like other characters, but hey). Amazing, that man .

OT: I can't think of a character name that bugs me. Sorry. Moist von Lipvig is supposed to be an awful name I think and Perdita; well, sounds like a stage name to me.
Oops, wait. I don't particularly like the name Jewelz (or something like it - I listened to the book, haven't read it properly yet) from UA.

there seems to be some confusion between character names which are felt to be unsuccessful or annoying, and characters who aren't sufficiently realised

Thats where the audio books shine. there it sounds like pet-a-clusp (and pet-a-clusp two A and two B) though still not the best names at least they are pronounceable.

and in my last post it should have been annoying, rather then alloying whatever that is. :(
