And for an encore, I have just finished Little Dorrit by Charles Dickens. You may now applaud.
Wonderful Sheldon moment
Hey, excuse me, I actually restarted that book on Monday, and finished it on Friday night. I actually read it within a week. The damn thing was over 800 pages, most of which I read in one night. I doubt that even Sheldon could do that. In fact, I don't think he would even bother in the first place.

Oh, and Happy Saturnalia, everyone! :p
For the Sheldon moment I meant the You may now applaud bit but i agree , Happy Saturnalia (Love that episode)

I do that in a sort of ironic way. It is an achievement to read such a book so quickly. But I expect recognition rather than applause. The plea for applause was sardonic. Sheldon wouldn't understand sardonic if it slapped him across the face. :)

And then, speaking of funny Xmas and The Big Bang Theory, there's Sheldon and Leonard about Christmas films...

Sheldon: I found the Grinch to be a relatable and engaging character, and I was really with him right up the point that he succumbed to social convention and returned the presents and saved Christmas. What a buzzkill that was.

Leonard: When we watch Frosty the Snowman, he roots for the sun.

Sheldon: Excuse me, but the sun is essential for all life on Earth. Frosty is merely a bit of frozen supernatural ephemera and a stolen hat—a crime, by the way, for which he is never brought to account.

Leonard: (singing) Fa-la-la-la la-la-la-la!

"And that, Charlie Brown, is what boredom is all about" ;)
You think that's bad? You should read the Transmetropolitan Christmas specials, one of which I take my avatar from, and the other supplied my sig. In the former, Spider Jerusalem claims to have killed Santa and dumped his corpse in a sewer. Not to mention reshaping snowmen in a manner deliberately designed to scar children.

But it's funnier in the second 'Christmas special'. Read the signature. After it, he says, "For example, last year, I didn't have this gun." Said gun being basically a gatling gun for snowballs. It's rather funny. And the people he shoots it at eventually retaliate with a cannon.

Transmetropolitan isn't for everyone. It's a dark future and a pretty violent comic, but it's a very well-written one. Just saying.

Who knows, I have never reread a book in my (short) life, apart from bits for exams at school. But who knows. I'm not a fast reader so it's a big commitment rereading when there are always more books around the corner.

I'm already about a third of the way through my life and have read so little....
I reread books all the time.

Currently reading... NOTHING!!! Because I'm in the middle of my prelims and I spend all my time studying!!! Whoop-de-doop.

Tucson, Arizona, U.S.A.
Went to dinner tonight with Mike Hayes & his wife, Barbara. He writes an incredibly funny mystery/satiric series featuring a sheriff (named English) ) in a fictional Kansas county and now he's added daughter Heather, who is with the Sewa tribal police (fictional name for actual Tohono O'odham tribe). It is set alternately in Kansas & on the rez and in Tucson on a memorable Christmas day. His newest book(called English Lessons) is a hoot. Tony and I have both read it and found it laugh out loud funny. But the wonderful thing is that he's beginning to write the kind of satire that Terry uses. This book features the 2nd Amendment gun nuts, and the border problems in Tucson.

I met Dr Karl Kruszelnicki on Thursday, and got him to sign a number of my books (as well as correct some he signed last year but misspelt my name). Very good man.

I also finished recently The Silmarillion, not to mention the latest Ciaphas Cain novel, The Emperor's Finest.
