I don't think I even made it 2 chapters into A Casual Vacancy before giving up on it.

I'm seconding The Graveyard Book Bouncy!
Have to agree on Casual Vacancy. I finished it but forced my way to the end. Its nasty and crude in parts. Its over the top when it didn't need to be.
It was the reading equivalent of a brick in the face at times.
Haven't even opened the Cuckoo's Calling either

^ Just let me get to the end and we'll see. ;) To be frank, I didn't expect it to be really good; the subject matter doesn't interest me too much.

I will say already when J.K. uses more mature wordings they are a bit like a slap in the face! They seem so forcibly written down in comparison with the obviously more child-friendly Harry Potter books.

Loved Odd and the Frost Giants too.

I think that's a large part of the problem Freebie, she's trying too hard. But hopefully you'll get some enjoyment out of reading it. It's awful to get all the way through a book and wonder why you bothered.

Perfect comparison Raisin!

Just started Takedown Twenty by Janet Evanovich.
Finished it in about two days. Reading Evanovich is like eating M&Ms--every time you read one it's almost indistinguishable from the last one, but it's still irresistible.
I haven't read about crazy Stephanie Plum for a couple of years now. I think I overdosed myself on them.

I read Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Next, I was going to read Dr Sleep but after looking at the Bromeliad trilogy topic I think I'll read that again. I haven't read any of TP's books this year yet so that'll be a good start I think.

Reading the Emperor's Blades by Brian Staveley. Its a debut novel and its damn good so far. A decent fantasy similar to Blood Song which was one of my favourite books from last year

Not a book per-say but I've gotten in to a long and I mean long running steam punk web comic series
Girl Genius
It's really good. There's also not only physical graphic novel releases of the series (it actually started as a print comic), but they've released two novelisations so far: Agatha H and the Airship City and Agatha H and the Clockwork Princess. A third novelisation's on the way.

There's a Discworld reference here:

Pay attention to the first panel... ;)

Okay, so I finished The Casual Vacancy. I didn't think it was too bad, yet it lacked any excitement, not enough perhaps happened, and nothing too new was brought to the table. I won't be rushing to read it again for the next few years. :)

Now reading William Goldman - The Princess Bride

I'm reading the first of the Agatha Raisin Mysteries by M.C. Beaton. They serialised a couple of the books on Radio 4 Extra and they were such fun that I decided to try one. I haven't been disappointed yet. They are written by the same writer that wrote the Hamish Macbeth books.
