Its an English slang word for a paedophile. Not sure of the origins but heard enough English use it to know the gist of it.
The book is great but has a major kick in the teeth in it.
Again Enjoy

I thought 'nonce' was a term for an idiot, not a paedophile. :| And according to my dictionaries at home, it means 'for the present time'.

Definitely the Paedophile meaning in the Peter Grant books.
One of the quirks that's both good and bad about the English language is the multiple meanings of words .Joseph Conrad writes a few lovely rants about it.

Anyway, just finished reading Bimbos of the Death Sun, and the Doctor Who novel Shakedown.

The former? It's all right, but I much prefer (and recommend) Nev Fountain's Geek Tragedy, which has a similar premise, but a better story overall.

The latter? A good romp.

Finished The Cuckoo's Calling and enjoyed it a lot. Made a lot of sense to use a pseudonym for an adult book. Harry Potter it ain't  . Might try the latest Kate Atkinson next, Life after Life.

Finished Broken Homes. Loved it! Pip, even with your warning and the little giveaway in the book, I did not see that coming!
Its quite the ending. Really looking forward to the next book in the summer.

Discworld drew me back! Organising ( yeah, right!) my library at the weekend I could not find Jingo, The Last Continent or Carpe Jugulum  Suspect that these have been 'borrowed' at some point but best to write this off as no one has any reliable memory of the event. Also, no one wants to own up about neglecting the dusting :shifty:
However, in a charity shop on Monday there was half a shelf of Discworld paperbacks! Woot! And Jingo was one of them
Time I read it again then!

Me too! I'm wondering if I'll be able to pick up a copy at the DWcon? For some reason, the one piece of slang that I get the biggest kick out of is "manor". People referring to where they grew up or live as their manor.
