Just finished 'brasyl' by Ian McDonald - very odd and dark with lots of Quantum stuff in it.

Am currently reading 'Selling Out' by Justina Robson wich is also odd and sort of quantumish but not (it's called aether in this one), with elves and demons and humans and elementals and Others in it, and dark bits but loads of humour, so easier to read. I do prefer dark deeds to be laced with humour!

Both fiction, btw, and both well worth reading, though I found 'brasyl' quite confusing until I got into it about a quarter of the way through.

Finished Dark Side of the Moon (a struggle), and have just started Strata (looks more promising).

I struggled with Dark Side, as I found there were too many different species, with dodgy pronouciations, and too much description of planets, and space travel.

I'm glad Strata has come back (well, as far as I've got!!) to land....... and it's a very flat, discular sort of land! ;)

And now I at least know why the tavern is called the Broken Drum.
Yeah, Strata is good. It reads like a prequel to discworld. I don't think I read Dark Side of the Sun, though I intend to check it out.

I am now about three-quarters of the way through 'The Eyre Affair' (Jasper Fforde) after reading several recommendations from other members. I am not going to whinge, however, about the fact that money earmarked for other stuff is now going to be spent on buying the rest of the series. Great stuff and really enjoying it.

thanks to an Australian A&P II professor, I now know what whinge means.
All Australians know whinging is the great English pastime ;) They know when a plane load of English have arrived at the airport because the engines switch off but the whine continues!

(Sits back and awaits the slapping that that one deserves)

Just a word of warning - the series relaxes a bit in the next couple of books - sequel syndrome I'd call it. Basically, after the success of the first one Jasper realises that he can write a series. That's not sayig that the other books aren't great - they are, just that he can afford to spread the plot over more books. ;)

Fair comment Tony. I have a couple of weeks off work now and could do with some new reading material anyway. Even Terry's books need putting to one side every now and again ;)
I've just started rereading the series. ;)

Currently reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I am reading it aloud to my wife before bed as she wanted to know what the fuss was about and now she is hooked! The next move is the Unadulterated Cat to get her into PTerry
