im reading, new moan, a twishite novel  its a parody can u tell :)
I don't like parodies. Someone writes a book, which he/she worked hard with, and then someone else comes along who believes he can do it better, and makes fun of it. He could better write a whole new book - oh, sorry, of course he doesn't have enough imagination fot that...

But that's different. Terry Pratchett only uses the tipical stereotypes, but he has created a whole new world with original caracters, and on the whole, it's something totally new. And more important: he doesn't hurt anyone. Whereas, real parodies (as, just to name one, those someone wrote of Harry Potter) choose a book/story in particular, and try to make it as ridicilous as possible, only because they believe it's stupid. They don't want to give something literaturally to the world, they only want to hurt, and prove their right, and laught at the original work.
Parodies are mean. Terry Pratchett-books ARE NOT parodies.

The Dragon Riders of the Wyrmburg were very much a parody of the Dragon Riders of Pern from Anne McCaffrey's books. But I generally agree that Terry doesn't do parodies these days. I know what you mean though. ;)

Some of the parodies are well done and funny the LOTR SELLAMILLION or the Hobbit one or the Dune one or even the Star Wars ones, Davici cod one or the Matwix and so on, I think they are funny when well done. if Someone parodies your books you know you have become a succsessful author because they would not do it otherwise. :)

Have just finished reading the first two of Elizabeth Gunn's new series, set in Tucson. Liz (who lives in Tucson and is a friend from bookstore days)is a first rate mystery writer and she has done really well in capturing the sense of place and (as always) does a first rate police procedural. The titles are Cool in Tucson and New River Blues--published in the UK and available from Amazon UK. Her other series is also good--but set in Minnesota with a male rather than a female cop. For the new series, think Grafton, Paretsky and Muller (according to booklist).
