About a hundred and fifty pages into The Passage by Justin Cronin. Pretty gripping stuff. It's a vampire novel - sort of. Reminds me of The Stand, but also of Michael Crichton.
chris, it's good, i like both books took me a while to get used to the mix of I\we, but is very well written and I look forward to the next in the series.
I've just finished reading Q&A (the book Slumdog Millionaire was based on) and thoroughly enjoyed it. The stories behind the questions and the character relationships are vastly different from the film, which I must admit took me by surprise. Never mind, I still think the film is fantastic even though I now realise it's only very loosely based on the book!

In the Dwarf Bread Museum, in Whirligig Alley, Mr Hopkinson the curator was somewhat excited. Apart from other considerations, he'd just been murdered.
I'm up to the part where Cheery Littlebottom joins the Watch.
Only her/his name isn't very funny because I've pretty much read all the Watch books with her in them. And that's whatcha get for reading out of order.
