I'm just starting The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I had to buy this one from Oxfam books, because it was missing in the library, so I hope it's good!
I haven't read it but the missus loved it .

It's reminding me of Barbara Pym, but with a bit more action

We did it as the book club choice in the library in Tucson a while back. Everyone adored it.

So did I. ;)

By the way - someone created a Google Map to go with the book HERE.

The Flashman books are great! Apparently when they were first published loads of people thought they were really based on the 'discovered manuscripts' of Flashman.
You know I was wondering about that... didn't know anything about them and there isn't the usual "all characters are ficticious" add that to the numbered points at the back makes it totally believable! wasn't sure either way so don't laugh too much ;)

or I'm totally gullible!

The Afterlife...
If we're going to be honest here... I'm reading "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown.
Before I get my coat and head towards the door hanging my head in shame, I actually only bought it as a 'holiday' read! It's covered in sand, sun oil, Efes beer and I think mayonaise although I can't be sure. I hope it's mayonaise :s
However, I did see a young lady reading the new Tiffany Aching book and watched the way the heat made it fall apart. I felt sorry for her because she looked so gutted.
My book fell apart too but that's by the by but my book is not a book I'm going to treasure*

Zebs.

*Or possibly finish. It induces yawning.

Are Dan Brown's books taboo or something? I enjoyed them immensely. Good fast paced fiction that had me turning pages through the night. I've read all but found Deception Point and the Lost Symbol to have the weaker plots. Digital Fortress and Angels & Demons were the best written and the Da Vinci Code was nothing short of brilliant. Watching the priests react to it on tv was hilarious.

NOT The land of the risen Son!!
There are no taboos here unless you're a snob.
To demonstrate, I will now break three possible taboos;

I thoroughly enjoyed the Da Vinci Code and would rate it higher than Monstrous Regiment, which no matter how many times I read, I just can't enjoy.

I also enjoyed reading Harry Potter.

I also think Lord of the Rings is over-rated. :p

I agree with everything you said there Pooh, except about LOTR ;)

Monstrous Regiment is my least favourite DW book, I've read it once and I'm not sure when I'll read it again.

I love the HP series and I'm looking forward to the final films this year and next.

I love LOTR, and I don't think that will ever change. My once prestine paperbacks are wrecked, to read again I'll need another set, or failing that, tweezers.

I thought that about Monstrous Regiment the first time I read it. It was much better on subsequent readings. :p

Making Money is a differnt matter. I didn't like it the first time and I've not liked it any more subsequently. ;)

Believe it or not Tony, but I recently re-read Making Money and actually enjoyed it.
First two times I really didn't like it.
Well it's coming up for discussion in November, so I'll be reading it again. maybe I'll change my mind then. ;)

Exactly the same here, and would like to add that I liked the Dan Brown books (exept maybe The Lost Symbol...), and liked the movie they made out of the Da Vince Code, but hated the Angels and Demons movie. The only thing that makes it worth watching is the Hans Zimmer soundtrack (which is AMAZING  )
