I was starting to think I was the only woman who doesn't like Jodi Picoult! What a relief.

I'm reading Lost in a Good Book - lucky for me my library is so underused. I also got out Russell Hoban's Linger Awhile. Looks a bit wierd, but his Riddley Walker was excellent, so you never know.

I set aside Making Money to read something new. Picked up There's No Place Like Here from the library. It was on my list, someone on another forum recommended it. Can't remember the author's name right at the moment. It was kind of slow to start, wasn't sure if I'd be able to get into it, but now I can't put it down! It's about the place where missing things and missing people end up. The main character has been obsessed with finding missing things since a child in her class went missing when she was 10. And she ends up in the place where missing things are herself.

Oh, I've read all the Jasper Fforde books. I liked the Thursday next series quite a bit, but it definately slows down in the middle (as mentioned before). The nursery crimes books were great, I really enjoyed reading them.

I've just finished reading Runemarks by Joanne Harris. It was ok, but not as great as I'd hoped.

I've also just finished The Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul by Douglas Adams, which I really enjoyed. But, I've loved all the Adams books, so that's no suprising.

Now I am reading So You Want to Be a Wizard by Diane Duane. I'm not sure why I keep returning to these young adult novels, but I suspect it has something to do with all my other reading being related to graduate courses in linguistics and teaching methods. My brain needs a break. :)

Now I'm on to the Well of Lost Plots. And it is plodding a bit. But if I will insist on reading the entire series in one go I can't really complain if it's getting a bit dull.

Many years ago (1989) I finally gave up on the Dragon Rider books by Anne McCaffrey. That was a book called The Renegades of Pern and I didn't actually finish it.

Let me go back a bit. I discovered the series back in the 70s and loved them. But she left one of her books with an ending that I just had to see resolved. I waited for the next book and the one after that and several others for her to continue and she didn't.

Eventually I gave up. I recently discovered that she HAD written the book I'd been waiting for and I'd given up around two years too early.

I'm now reading (and enjoying) All the Weyrs of Pern - FINALLY!!!

Tony, I am so glad you got back to Anne's Dragon books. I think I've got & have read all now. The one that her Son Todd wrote is good too.

"Elements of Modern X-ray Physics", because I'm working away from home all week (and weekend - boo!). It's a real page turner. Can't wait to get back to some real literature - like Pratchett for example.

Can't say the title promises a riveting read.

I've been told by friends to take a serious break off the TP books - I'm onto the highly populated and over advertised, Twilight series. I'm onto the second book now, New Moon. Not as good as what the teens say it is :x
