I'm reading Casino Royale for my reading group. And it's absolutely awful! I know it was written more than 50 years ago, but really there's no excuse for lines like "women were just for recreation"

It's saving grace is that it's short. :)

Wasn't that a description of Rene Mathis' opinion? It's been a while since I read it, but I'm sure Mathis was a bigger misogynist than Bond.

Currently reading People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks which I had for my birthday.

Brooks is getting to be one of my favourite writers, although she's only written three novels so far.

I just finished another Cecilia Ahern book, If You Could See Me Now. It was fantastic! As I finished the last page, I was thinking that it would make a great movie, then noticed a note at the back that said Disney had bought the movie rights to it.

For my book club I'm reading The True Story of Hansel and Gretel. It's a novel about two children abandoned in Nazi Germany. This book club tends to go for the light-hearted reading. o_O I was expecting to hate it and not be able to get past the first couple pages, but it's surprisingly readable so far. We'll see....

Nope it's all Bond. Mathis tells him he'll be working with a woman then leaves the room, this is just Bond grumping to himself about it. And it gets much, much worse

BTW finished Casino Royale (phew), now I'm just starting The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks. It's a bit twisted, to say the least.

I've just finished Jane Eyre (Miss Bronte) and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini who also wrote The Kite Runner. It was wierd reading two books which are almost like literary antipodes, but they are two FANTASTIC books nonetheless, each for completely different reasons than the other.

I would highly recommend A Thousand Splendid Suns for anyone wishing to disable movement of their eyes from the page for a long time.

I've just started Making Money on the train this morning (which was why I sought out this site!) - haven't read Pratchett for a few books now. Needed a fix. Woo!
