I once had a dream about the rapture!
I was about 15 years old. In the dream I was cycling home with a friend from school when suddenly, the clouds parted and there was a bright light. There was a loud booming voice telling us, basically, that 'this was it people, end of the earth'. We were then transported by escalators up into that bright light. I think everyone got to go though, not just the devout Christians (since I didn't/don't consider me one).
The main reason I remember this dream is because while riding that escalator, we were discussing if this counted as dying a virgin :) At least we had our priorities straight...
Whenever the sun breaks through the cloud, I still do a quick check if there are any escalators sprouting out of the ground.

Sounds like it would make a good book, doesn't it?

I probably should have just given you my review, Tony. Then you wouldn't have had to look up the Amazon ones... Although you still probably would have.

Anyway, it's an amazing book. It is fiction, so whether or not you believe in the Rapture you may still like it.

I didn't realise there was more than one book, though...

Tony, log out of your Amazon account and clear out your cookies and all those horrible recommendations will go away.

That's called the "sneaky husband" trick since it's what guys who share PCs with their SWMBOS do to keep them from finding out what they've been surfing on Amazon for.

:)

They don't really bother me. I barely noticed that they were doing it anyway.

I'm reading Every Day is Mother's Day, by Hilary Mantel. Wierd!

I actually liked Left Behind for a while. That was before my misotheism. If you ignore the blatant in-your-face Christianity, they're not too bad.

That being said, The Stand was a much better take on the apocalypse. I reckon Randall Flagg could...well, let's just say that kicking Nicolae Carpathia's arse is pretty much at the bottom of the list at what Flagg can do.

There are teeth.

*sound of a trot breaking into a run, and then a gallop. Quatermass dives out of the way as Randall Flagg runs down Nicolae Carpathia*

"HEY, NICOLAAAEEEE, YOU SCROOOOWED IT UP!"

*Quatermass brushes himself off as the two fictional characters clash*

As I said. There are teeth.

Just started "Hodejegeren" (that's Headhunter in english) by Jo Nesbø, a norwegian crime novelist.
There'll soon be a movie made from this book and I want to read it before i watch the film.

Has anyone ever enjoyed a film adaptation post-reading? I was quite disappointed with Never Let Me Go because I liked the book very much and felt Keira Knightley was fairly ineffective, but I enjoyed The Count of Monte Cristo and read (and adored) the book because of the film.

I also enjoyed the book of Never Let Me Go, and I don't imagine KN would be any good as Ruth, so I won't bother. I think the focus of the film is different to the book as well.

I did like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the Harry Potter films didn't do a bad job (although not as good as the books). The DW adaptations are a bit hit-and-miss.
