Love all the Star Treks although I found DS9 a bit hard to get into at first. I've also read quite a few of the books and found them enjoyable easy reading. I would recommend the "Star Trek: Invasion" quadrilogy which contains novels featuring all four series (Original Series, Next Generation, DS9, and Voyager) and all written by different authors .

Have recently finished watching the 10 disc HBO special called The Pacific. It's basically a parallel to Band of Brothers, but follows 3 marines through the campaigns from Guadalcanal through Okinawa. Extremely powerful and almost documentary in the coverage.

firefly is a series and serenity is the wind up film as it was cancelled

they are completed but the end is a little rushed but still well worth a look, it really annoyed an awful lot of people when it was cancelled
