Saw 'John Carter' yesterday and had to come here just to point out that Woola is John Carter's Luggage! It's obsessively loyal, tenacious, fast-moving, multi-legged, has lots of teeth, follows him everywhere he goes and attacks anyone who threatens him. Makes me wonder if Terry Pratchett read the Barsoom books in his youth.

Amazing observation! I am only going to see the luggage now whenever I watch it again! :) I really enjoyed the film too. :)

Welcome to the site! :)

Funny! I didn't know there was a Luggage in John Carter. We'll probably wait for DVD.

Saw Hugo last night, thought it was really good! Thing 1 loved it. Thing 2 liked it a lot but there were stretches where it started to lose her attention. Still, I was really impressed that she sat through it!

Just watched the first 'Alien' film again. Despite being made 33 years ago, I don't think it has aged that much and is still pretty scary. (Although the scene where the "chest-burster" runs along the table is a bit iffy)
Have you seen the spoof of that in Spaceballs?

Just watched John Carter. Special effects were good, the acting was decent, but the story? I know this was based on the first real planetary romance story, and that everything from Flash Gordon to Avatar owes something to Edgar Rice Burroughs, but John Carter feels to me like a cliched also-ran, and fairly dry of entertainment to me.

BTW, anyone notice the Rome reunion in John Carter's cast?

Don't think so. Ciaran Hinds, James Purefroy, and Polly Walker.

We watched the "Marilyn Bell" story last night.

She's the Canadian girl which swam across Lake Ontario (32 miles) at the age of 16.

She also achieved:
1955 Youngest person to swim the English Channel

1956 Swam the Straights of Juan de Fuca

1993 Cliff Lumsdon Award for outstanding achievement in solo marathon swimming

She even has her own plaque:
