Saw Hunger Games & The Thing on the weekend, ( it was that kinda weekend). I enjoyed both. The Thing (1982) is probably my favourite horror/sci fi, whatever genre it is, film. It's had good reviews so I was keen to see. I think they did a good job fitting it all together. My only 'I wonder' with it is why they missed the opportunity to make a back story for the alien. Maybe it should stay a mystery though, I'm all for mysterious. The CG/animatronics were astounding & I'm glad actual Norwegians were cast.
Oh I used to love "The Thing"! And yet another reason I have always wanted to but never been to the Antartic! Well that and the fact its so bloody COLD!

We have a thread about the Hunger Games too. So what did you think of it? (Hunger Games that is).

Friday we watched the new Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton) at a friend's. Quite interesting. Definitely made me want to read the book. I found it was filmed in a strange way. I can't really describe it. While als the effects etc. were good, it felt cheap somehow. Can't put my finger on it. I liked Alice.

Yesterday we were at the cinema since we got a gift coupon for our birthdays (my girlfriend and I are only a week apart - or rather 51 weeks) and went to see the new Potter (The woman in black).
I liked it, but it WAS creepy imo. Good acting by Mr Potter. But I'm not really sure what to make of the ending.
I recommend watching it if you like this kind of movie.

Visually, I loved Alice in Wonderland. If I were to peg something about it that felt a bit cheap, I would say the story felt a bit light, like it was just a foundation for the visual stuff. Have to add the disclaimer that I've never read the book though.

Really want to see The Woman in Black! I love scary movies, not gory ones though and it's hard to find scary that isn't gory. We're just waiting for it to come out on DVD.

This week I watched Sister Act 2,Puss in Boots and Happy Feet 2

Sister Act 2 was a pretty good sequel but it took a while for the movie to pick up.

Puss in Boots was terrible, absolutely terrible in my opinion.

Happy Feet 2 was an okay sequel but the guy from the first movie was so mean to his son sometimes.

My favorite was definitely Sister Act 2.

I loved it, one of my favourite films in a while.
Saw the best exotic marigold hotel yesterday and loved it, plot was a bit weak in places but superbly acted and reminded me a lot of the time I spent over there.

Immortals was soooo ridiculous!

I've been watching a load of Star Trek while commuting, just started season 5 of The Next Generation. Loads of good eps, and many that I didn't really remember the details of. Best one so far was Yesterday's Enterprise, Picard saying the war was going badly for the Federation gave me goosebumps :)

Overall, it's a very enjoyable experience. I've seen them all before, multiple times even, during my teens. But watching them now you notice different things. Like how Patrick Stewart elevates even the simplest story to another level by his awesome acting. And how badly written Troi is. Some great moments, some lame stories... I'm loving them all!

Sherlock Holmes (2009, with Robert Downey Jr.)
[MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!]
I was not impressed - acceptable, yes, but not more. It would've been a bit more enjoyable without preconceived ideas about Sherlock Holmes. But this was so different from the SH one knows that during the first hour or so I disliked the film very much.
And really, the ending (while necessary for the sequel I assume) is stupid. SH is so intelligent, sees through Blackwood's plan and then falls for the most obvious decoy in the whole film. And this, after just before he looked straight at what it really was all about.
