Last week we, friend & I, saw
We Bought A Zoo. It's the zoo virtually up the road from us here. The book was written by the owner Benjamin Mee, I have been to the zoo & have read the book, but the film rights were bought by an American company & they changed the setting to a place in America, with an American cast. It would have been better filmed here, but though nowhere near as good as the book & the plot they changed somewhat, it was still very watchable.
Last night me friend & I watched the first three episodes of
The Forsythe Saga on DVD. I have the complete boxed set of the series. 1295 minutes. Bought from the BBC shop at a fraction of it's original price.
Black & White, they didn't have colour TV in 1967.
That didn't matter, the lives of Soames, Jolly, Jo ( I loved Kenneth More) & the rest still gripped us. Amusement came with the flimsy sets as scenery moved when doors were opened or shut.
This was the best they had & state of the art filming for it's time. Some actors/actresses shone through, you could tell they would go far, others were never seen again.
If you tried to do that series again it would cost a fortune to produce. It would have been lovely to see the ladies fashions of the time in colour though.
I am looking forward to watching the next episodes.
