The Fisher King is my favourite Robin Williams movie. It doesn't get mentioned much but it's a keeper.

I love the Fisher King story, I think you must have a heart of flint not to be moved by it.

He was in some real stinkers though - Popeye, Insomnia and Toys spring to mind.
Funnily enough, there's a marvellous anecdote apparently related by Robin Williams when he was asked why he never directed. He feared having to say to an actor "I'm sorry, that wasn't very good", only to have said actor retort, "Well, what about Popeye?" This was from a book called Fiasco, which has an entire chapter about Popeye. I highly recommend it.

Ayup All...

I absolutely hated Mrs Doubtfire, Toys and Popeye to name but a few, (OK Good will hunting and Blaaarghhh, Jumanji !) but I think 1-hour photo is his Magnum Opus. Very scary. showed he could act. The Birdcage is brilliant though. My now ex-girlfriend taught me to love it and his ad-libbed 'F*ck the shrimp' line in the kitchen was (and what a shock typing THAT word was) his best ever. RIP Mork.

PS, are there any new mini-series coming on line from Sky at all ?

been watching the hilarious Are you Dave Gorman in full for the first time ever
it's a simple obsessive tale of one man called Dave Gorman trying to meet 54
of his namesake one for every card in the deck including the jokers witnessed
by his flatmate Danny Wallace
if you can't find the program then I recommend buying the book which expands
on this true story much further than I'm willing to type

Have you seen his "America Unchained" where he drives from coast to coast and is only allowed to use independent businesses like hotels, petrol stations, shops, etc.? No franchises, corporate, or chain style shops for anything was allowed and he found it quite tricky to do. It was, on the whole, very entertaining and interesting to see how much influence the global chains have on our lives.

He's got a new series of Modern Life is Goodish starting soon Ghost. Last series had my boy in fits (great way of showing him how to question what he sees rather than me going on about it all the time. The first episode was particularly funny.

My ex has a habit of going to the recordings of his shows as part of the live studio audience
and the chances of seeing him on the TV makes me sick
in fact he was in the audience for the first show of season 1 and the shock of seeing him
made me throw up

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy - actually spent some shekels and went to the cinema. First time I've experienced the modern 3D with polarised light. Not too distracting - certainly miles better than the red/green thing. I think I made a mistake and sat too close to the screen. But the same rule applies - even great effects can't made a bad film good, luckily GOTG was pretty good, well, amusing anyway; not a classic but I was entertained. They managed to shoe-horn in an excuse to make the soundtrack all 70s and 80's pop songs, which helped.
