Been watching Star Trek with Mark Watches... rewatching the old episodes, most of which I've seen multiple times before... it's kinda opened my eyes to just how BAAAAD much of it was... the third season of TOS had a couple of gems but most of it was crap (I have a theory that they didn't expect a third season so when one came along they cobbled together most of it out of previously rejected material) the first 4 films were OK... I rate them all... but now we've hit TNG and although the pilot was good the next episode was a rehash/ripoff of an old TOS episode in which the main source of entertainment was the crew behaving out of character... but since the characters haven't really been established yet it just falls flat and the next episode was something described by Jonathon Frakes as "A racist piece of shit" which seems more than fair.
I'm still a Trekkie and i know it gets better as it finds its feet, but, well, Good Golly Miss Molly!

Their budget was cut, so Gene Roddenberry resigned as producer, there were far fewer writers and the ones they had weren't much cop... it wasn't a fitting end.

Mind you, I really struggle to watch the first season of TNG, it was awful!

We watched the recent Hercules with Dwayne Johnson a couple of nights ago. Didn't have really high hopes for it and was still disappointed. For a brief time at the beginning, I thought they might go in the campy direction, but sadly no.
