Someone on another site posted a list of movies currently in production or awaiting release and it made for depressing reading as it seemed to be about 90% remakes, sequels or adaptations of TV shows. :(

This is pretty sad. I don't think there's a lack of imagination out there but that studios would rather back something easy that's been previously popular. Personally I HATE :x remakes and I rarely watch book adaptions if I've read the book .

My friend & I watched The Court Jester DVD last night. I had forgotten some of the story & we laughed all the way through the film. Danny Kaye was a genius. Last week we watched Hans Christian Anderson, but I think the former is the best.

I would say it depends on the remake. Miracle on 34th Street was remade twice (at least), and the one in the seventies was dreadful. But the most recent one was lovely, much better than the original I think.

I watched The Dam Busters last night. What a great movie that was. I was reading up on it this morning a discovered that when it was distributed in the US the dog's name was dubbed to "Trigger".

Apparently Peter Jackson has been asked what he's going to do about the dog's name when he makes his version and he hasn't decided yet. He says it's a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't.

My friend & I watched the first 3 episodes on DVD of Adam Adamant last night. B&W. The acting was wooden, apart from the then lovely Gerald Harper :) & he hammed it up a bit. The production not good & the direction dreadful too. Yet at the time it was made, early 60's, we all thought it amazing. Deffinately cult viewing  I am hoping it gets better, as I have the whole series, 5 DVD's to watch. Bought from a car boot sale stall & unopened, untill I did.

Saw the last Rambo movie the other day. When I'm in the right mood it is quite satisfactory to watch all the baddies get blown away in a rain of blood and guts...

NCIS is my current obsession, along with Friends, and Allo Allo.

Movies? I've been watching the Rush Hours a lot, but so far I tend to stick to half hour programmes as I am constantly asked to do something and it's easier to pull myself out of a thirty minute to an hour programme than to stop a film, it's like putting a book down to do the washing up in the middle of the sentence in the middle of the page in the middle of the paragraph at the end of the chapter... that annoys me!

Television? Well, I love Diagnosis Murder, I HAVE to watch that every day. Don't know why, I just do!

I have actually met Sylvestor McCoy, and he's wonderful!

This week found a copy of Sidney Potier in Lilies of the Field which was just as marvellous as it was when I first saw it in 1963. Have since discovered that it was filmed just east of Tucson--and now recognize one of the nuns as a local actress.

Then also watched For Love or Country which is based on the Arturo Sandoval story. I'm not a huge jazz fan, so I didn't recognize the name of Sandoval ( the man has only won 7 or 8 grammys since escaping from Cuba). But the cast (Andy Garcia, Mia Meastro, Gloria Estefan) is marvellous. And Sandoval dubbed the trumpet playing. If you're into marvellous (Dizzy Gillispie-type jazz), don't miss this. Even if you're not-- it's a fun film.

Lilies of the Field was a lovely film and I think it must have been one of the first 'adult' films (that wasn't a western in the cowboy sense  ) I enjoyed and also made me a big Sidney Poitier fan
That really was a golden period for him with Guess who's coming to Dinner? and In the Heat of the Night (that's one of my my top films of all time)

Recently I've caught up on the current season of Lost, and I'm loving it! Even though it makes me nuts.

I tried to watch P.S. I Love You with Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler. Awful! I had to turn it off half way through. It was way too sad and I didn't want to spend 2 hours crying. Not even for the priviledge of watching Gerard dance around in his boxer shorts. It might have been better if Hilary Swank was able to pull off the funny scenes. She's unbelievably annoying!! She'll actually be filming a movie in our little town. Maybe I'll go watch. Perhaps she'll be better in it.

I also watched Deja Vu with Denzel Washington. Saw it a long time ago, and enjoyed it just as much this time around!
