I watched Battle Royale last night. Normally I avoid subtitled movies but this one had me pretty hooked all the way through, even though I found the concept a bit disturbing. A very good film, I thought.
I'll certainly give it a go Dug! I saw the book in Waterstones a little while back and was undecided whether to buy it. I think I might just go ahead on the basis of books generally being better than the movie.

I've never seen it. I think some films are so good that a below-par sequel would spoil the first film (I like Matrix less because of the two crappy efforts that follwed).
Departures. It was just so beautiful! It's a peaceful crying movie with the occasional smile of course, but it's just so touching and so emotinonal, not in the oh-my-god-I'm-suffering-so-much way, but in a really calm way... It sets Death and all his friends in a different point of view, not the actual dying part, but the way those staying behind - the actual victims, if you think about it - deal with the loss, and it's trying to show that there's actually nothing to be sad about, because "Death is just a gate we all pass"... And the soundtrack is so perfect that I'm crying again... no worries.

Have both films and i just don't think the sequel stands up to the first.
Partially down to the director/writer dying and the son doing it and Takeshi Kitano is so good in the First film while the techer in the second just doesn't come close. Still worth a look though

Well worth as second look. Watched Shrek 4 for a second time on Saturday. Much better than the awful third installment.
Finally managed to watch the first 4 episodes of Game of thrones yesterday and have to say i'm well impressed so far.
Rutger Hauer is awesome. It's got the old-fashioned bad movie feel they're aiming for but I can imagine that the extreme gore and violence is not for everyone.
Dave that is absolutely brilliant film, best realistic fight scenes yet for a Samuri film and a good story. as I was in Edinburg today could not miss the chance of seeing it.
