I seem to remember that most of the assistants didn't scream. Ace wouldn't have and I'm pretty sure that Jo or Sarah Jane didn't. Peri just complained all the time.

As to Bonnie Langford - you really had to see her as Violet-Elizabeth Botts in 'Just William' - that was enough to make you hate her even before she was in Dr Who. ;)

Didn't Susan leave because all she ended up doing was screaming? She started off being an interesting character but then became the equivalent of the blonde with the twisted ankle?

Peri did scream a bit, but as you say it was easy to miss amidst all the whinging

Leila also would never scream, but did do a lot of yelling and warrior-like grunting. As for Jo Grant (Katy Manning) - well I can't go on about her acting ability (because she had very little) but really from a female perspective she completely failed at what it was obvious they wanted her to be - a strong free-spirited/liberated woman. She was good at flouncing around in fur coats and tight trousers. As for screaming - she also didn't need to because she looked pathetic to order whenever she was called upon to do something intelligent/bold/dangerous...

No, I didn't like her!

My son (who is six) has just announced that he is a Dr Who nerd, just like his dad, and firmly believes that Sylvester is the bees knees, cat's pyjamas and something's elbows when it comes to THE Dr.

I will confess to enjoying the Five Doctors (which apparently 'true nerds' are not keen on) but the best bit is in the outtakes when the dalek has wandered around the halls screaming 'exterminate' and then rounds a corner and says in his dalek voice 'bugger! I've lost them!'
